Balance & Useful Influence

CONTEXT, SUPPORT, AND DIRECTIONOpen this bookmark
02

Balance language describes relationships inside a chart. It is not praise for a strong person or criticism of a weak one.

01RELATIVE STRENGTH

Strong and weak need context

Readers consider season, roots, support, output, control, combinations, and the chart as a whole before describing the Day Master as relatively strong or weak.

신강Strong Day Master

A Day Master assessed as having comparatively substantial support or presence.

신약Weak Day Master

A Day Master assessed as having comparatively limited support or presence.

균형Balance

The working relationship among the chart’s influences, not equal quantities of all five elements.

02USEFUL DIRECTION

What helps the chart work

Some traditions identify influences that help regulate, support, or direct the chart. The method and terminology can vary by school, so a careful reader explains the reasoning rather than announcing one lucky element.

용신Useful Influence

An influence selected as especially useful to the chart’s structure or balance.

희신Supportive Influence

An influence considered helpful to the useful direction.

기신Difficult Influence

An influence considered likely to intensify an existing imbalance or difficulty.
